Philanthropic Research: Call for Proposals!

October 9, 2017

The AFP Foundation for Philanthropy – Canada is accepting proposals under its Research Awards program with a deadline of November 30, 2017

Up to $10,000 is available, and grant notifications will be made by the end of 2017 with the expectation that the research will be completed by November 30, 2018.

The Foundation supports the highest quality research in fundraising, philanthropy and the fundraising profession.  The research may be basic or applied research and can be primary or secondary, qualitative or quantitative research. There are nine identified research priorities:

  • Accountability & Governance
  • Capacity & Sustainability
  • Partnerships & Alliances
  • Stronger & Diversified Donor Base
  • Funding Processes & Mechanisms
  • Globalization & Impact
  • The Fundraising Profession
  • Research: Tracking Coordination, Synthesis & Application
  • Government & Regulatory Environments

The AFP Foundation for Philanthropy – Canada believes that leadership is philanthropy is a primary concern for both fundraisers and charities in Canada and around the world.  The challenges facing the profession are significant: a lack of understanding about fundraising and philanthropy by boards and CEOs, pressure to perform, few career advancement opportunities for mid-to-senior level fundraisers, and a pending shortage of fundraising leaders with the skills and talent to lead charities or large fundraising departments.  Because of this priority, the Research Committee will also consider research priorities around the following areas:

  • Culture of philanthropy
  • Workplace issues
  • Diversity
  • Turnover and challenges

The research must be affiliated with a registered charity in Canada, and the Foundation will have the right to disseminate the results to the general public.
