UPDATE: 2016 AFP Canadian Leadership Retreat
August 8, 2016
Seventy-five chapter leaders from across Canada met in Winnipeg on July 21-23, 2016 for the annual AFP Canadian Leadership Retreat. The retreat was led by Karen Mercier, CFRE, chair of Canadian Council, Leah Eustace, ACFRE, chair of the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy – Canada and Daniel Brunette, chair of the Canadian Government Relations Committee.
One of the key presentations at the retreat was made by Lorelei Wilkinson, CFRE, chair of the AFP Canada Foundation Research Committee, on the “What Canadian Donors Want” research. The next version of the survey is already being planned for 2017, and the AFP SK, Saskatoon Chapter announced that it would be a lead chapter donor for this important research for the sector.
The Canada New Horizons Transition Task Force, led by Nicholas Offord, discussed the timeline for implementing the various recommendations from last year, which included incorporating AFP in Canada, establishing a board of directors and hiring a senior level staff person. AFP will move ahead with the incorporation and the board of directors. There was unanimous agreement that AFP Canada needs a senior level executive but given the cost involved, this recommendation will be delayed and reviewed again in 2017.
Other presentations were made about the Fundraising Effectiveness Project, communications to members and external organizations, leadership development, National Philanthropy Day, Giving Tuesday and branding of the association.
