New Web Resource for Canadian Donors
(Jan. 15, 2007) The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has developed a new online resource that provides a wealth of data to donors about registered charities, regulations, donation receipts and tips on wise giving.
“Giving to Charity: Information for Donors” is available on the CRA website and includes links to the CRA’s Charities Listing, which lists the more than 82,000 registered charities in Canada. Donors can use the listings to verify if a particular organization is a registered charity and eligible to issue donation receipts, as well as view contact information, a description of the charity’s activities and financial data such as income, expenditures, assets and liabilities.
The resource also contains links to information on tax benefits of giving, how to ensure donation receipts are complete and official and the regulation of charities by the CRA and donors alerts issued by the CRA.
“The Canada Revenue Agency regulates registered charities in Canada and is committed to providing donors with relevant information,” said Minister of National Revenue Carol Skelton, in a release about the online resource. “Many Canadians make donations at this time of the year, so I am pleased that Canada’s new government is offering user-friendly information via the CRA website to help donors make informed decisions about supporting charities.”
