Calgary hosts AFP Canada leaders July 11-13!
May 21, 2013
The annual gathering of AFP leaders from across Canada is set to happen at the tail end of the “greatest outdoor show in the world”—The Calgary Stampede!
The strategic focus for this year’s retreat is “branding,” which is a major aspect of the AFP Canada Strategic Plan. Branding addresses how we are perceived in our communities and sets the foundation for other goals in the plan and how AFP can better serve its members in Canada. Another exciting initiative includes the development of more Canadian content and resources on the AFP International website.
This retreat brings chapter leaders together with national and international AFP leaders to collaborate on the many projects handled by the Canada Council, the Government Relations Committee and the Foundation for Philanthropy – Canada. These groups work closely with each other to realize collective goals that serve the nonprofit sector and AFP members.
These committees are always looking for interested members who want to get involved. in. If you have an interest in national AFP affairs and activities, consider a nomination to one of the three groups, as the nomination process will begin soon. Questions can be directed to Cynthia Quigley, or any of the three Chairs: Scott Decksheimer, Karen Willson or Derek Fraser.
The Calgary & Area Chapter is looking forward to welcoming their colleagues from AFP Chapters across Canada as well as our visiting American friends. In fact, new board chair, Bob Carter, president and CEO Andrew Watt and vice president Lori Gusdorf have all been practicing their square dancing and getting into the spirit of the Stampede with past AFP chair, Andrea McManus—click here to see: https://vimeo.com/65112450
