The ASU Foundation is a private non-profit organization that identifies, encourages and engages private supporters to advance the success of Arizona State University as a New American University.

Building off the momentum of the public launch of Campaign ASU 2020, the Arizona State University Foundation for A New American University is transforming its Office of Estate and Gift Planning (OEGP) to meet the needs of its New American donor/prospect. This core development office is seeking an Executive Director to lead the team forward and capitalize on the abundance of opportunity ASU has generated by being the #1 Innovative University in the US according to US News and World Reports ahead of MIT and Stanford.
We are seeking a proven, assertive fundraising leader who understands estate and gift planning, and is collaborative and strategic while taking an entrepreneurial approach to developing and strengthening relationships. This position will serve as an integral member of the Vice President of Core Development’s team as well as a member of Foundation’s Development Management team.
What you’ll do:
Lead a comprehensive fundraising and development program that supports the ASU Foundation’s fundraising priorities
Responsible for achieving the unit and personal fundraising goals/metrics
Build and manage a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects and secure philanthropic investments in support of Arizona State University’s priorities
Establish reliable reporting for monthly, quarterly, and annual analysis
Furnish timely leadership reports on progress toward assigned goals
Hire, supervise, mentor and evaluate assigned OEGP development staff
Re-establish and manage the Partners in Philanthropy group
Establish and nurture effective, collegial working relationships with Foundation colleagues, University partners, volunteers, and donors
Proactively collaborate across the University enterprise to leverage the maximum philanthropic potential of each donor
Develop and oversee a results-oriented and forward facing communication and marketing plan that builds the prospect pipeline and shares impact with donors, as well as educates Foundation and University colleagues in aspects of planned giving and ensures program transparency
Work within the ASU Foundation prospect management and tracking system, following all protocols for visits and solicitations
Other development related duties as assigned by the Vice President of Core Development
What you’ll need:
Knowledgeable in the use, application and administration of planned giving instruments, tax legislation, and IRS regulation/code as it relates to planned giving
Ability to interact with donors; professional advisors; Foundation staff; University faculty and staff; alumni; and volunteers in a professional manner that instills confidence in ASU and its related priorities and programs
Ability and desire to work in a team-based environment focused on collaboration and innovation
Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Foundation and University business and prospect information
Strong interpersonal skills; organizational skills; demonstrated written/oral communications skills; competency in making face-to-face solicitations
Ability to set goals and priorities, take initiative, and demonstrate accountability while remaining nimble to match the Foundation’s strategic direction and evolving priorities
Experience managing staff and volunteers, effectively handling complex situations involving numerous and sometimes competing constituencies
Experience with budgeting and financial analysis
Bachelor’s degree, advanced degree preferred, with a minimum of 12-15 years of successful development experience, preferably in higher education, estate planning, financial advising or tax advising; OR, any equivalent combination of education and experience within a complex organization from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
